"Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee."
Song of Solomon 1:4
Does anyone remember that there was a popular song a good while ago called "Draw Me Close to You"?
The Lyrics went like this:
"Draw Me Close to You
Never Let Me Go
I'd Lay It All Down Again
To Hear You Say That I'm Your Friend
You Are My Desire . . . Bring Me Back to You!
You're All I Want
You're All I've Ever Needed
You're All I Want
Help Me Know You Are Near"
Well, if those lyrics ring a bell, then it's probably because you've either heard it sung thousands of times or you've actually sang it thousands of times yourself! And, though I have not heard it anywhere for a number of years, I can't help but hear it played in my head every time I read this verse.
It is a somewhat familiar verse from one of the most misunderstood books of the Holy Bible. It is quite obvious to the reader and serious student of God's word that this book is a beautiful picture of the bridal relationship between the LORD Jesus Christ, and the believer whom is pressing "toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus".
This being understood, what a powerful thought! We have the espoused Bride of the LORD Jesus Christ, still in her immature state, yet crying, begging, pleading for Her King to DRAW HER!
Wow! How often do we and have we prayed for the LORD to draw us? I can speak for myself when I say that I have often prayed something to this effect:
"LORD, I need you! LORD, Please draw me!
I can't make it without you Jesus!
LORD I feel complacent, please draw me!"
This, being a sincere and honest prayer, the LORD has always answered it!
My expectations were set, and I was waiting for a strong feeling of spiritual energy, the likes of which I had never seen, heard of or felt! This did not happen. I expected to all of a sudden, somehow, not be able to think of anything but God 24-7 - that didn't happen.
Our idea of "drawing" does not necessarily match the wise King's methods.
You see, the word chamber, here in this verse, is, in the rabbinical Hebrew tongue, the word: Kheh-der.
חֶדֶר
This word signifies a Bridal chamber. So, let's re-examine this: "Draw me, we will run after thee: the King has brought me into His [Bridal] Chambers . . .".
A chamber is a closed, tight place. This speaks to us of a tight circumstance, if you will. A tight trial. And the espoused Bride said chambers. She signified that there would be many chambers. Many tight circumstances and trials.
Anytime I have felt isolated from the LORD, anytime I find myself lukewarm, I can always trace my steps back to a "Bridal Chamber", if you will, that I have avoided! The LORD's desire is to meet us in the chamber of the prayer closet. We do not want this. We feel that we do not need this.
We are blind to our need for more of Him, and thus, when we do make it to the prayer closet, it is often a shallow experience! We should ask ourselves, "was God pleased with our prayer time today? Did the LORD derive pleasurable experience?"
We feel isolated from the LORD because we are not close to Him. We then pray, "Draw me close to you!" And in His faithful way, he will send us into a "chamber experience" to show us our need for Him. We draw close to him through our REALIZATION of our need. A circumstance that causes us to cry out to Him because we finally see, through the circumstance that, truly, "You're all I've ever needed!"
So, if we run into a situation today that was unexpected, let's pull back and say:
"Draw Me, We Will Run After Thee: The King Has Brought Me Into His Chambers . . ."
Don't be discouraged though, because another chamber means another experience of oneness with him, and another layer of revelation of our precious Bridegroom!
Comment! Post! Enjoy the LORD today!
God Bless You!
Hey Kenneth, where did you get the Hebrew language to download to your pc or did you copy and paste it ??? I was wanting to do a post on Ehyeh ashwer ehyeh this a.m. but could not b/c I could not key the hebrew letters...NOW
ReplyDeleteto your post subject...so timely for me right now sometimes I am not sure if I am leaving summer headed to autumn or winter to spring....I get so focused upon the "lonely feeling" of leaving His Presence that I am distracted from the power of the journey of truth to another corner of his name....
Sorry about the mispelled words in my previous post...in a hurry I should be out the door and here I sit in from of the pc on blogger dot com.....
ReplyDeleteHaha I know how it is to be rushed all the time. I use blueletterbible.org for all of my references online, they break down the whole text into the Hebrew text with the English beside it: then I copy and paste the word I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do know how it is
Also I do know how it is to feel scrambled with our "seasons" in trying to travel within the corners of His name! I just read the new notes about nawt-Sakh intercession- they had a lot to say about that feeling we feel- that death that tries to drain our joy! Then we feel seperated from the LORD! It's so liberating!
